Westbourne Nursery Life – JULY 2026

What we’ve been up to this month…

What a fantastic month we’ve had at nursery! We’ve been making the most of the lovely sunshine by spending lots of time outdoors, exploring the garden and enjoying a wide range of activities in the fresh air. To help usstay cool during the heatwave, the children loved making and tasting their own homemade ice lollies and delicious yoghurt bark – a fun and refreshing treat!

We’ve enjoyed getting creative with ice painting, watching the colours melt and mix together, as well as creating beautiful rainbow paintings inspired by the bright summer days. Water play has been a firm favourite this month too, providing plenty of opportunities for splashing, experimenting and cooling down while developing teamwork and communication skills.

The children have also been busy bird watching in the garden, learning to observe nature and spot different birds visiting our outdoor space. Our puppet shows have sparked lots of imagination, storytelling and laughter, encouraging confidence and language development. Alongside all of this, we’ve continued to support the children’s early writing skills through a variety of fun, hands-on activities, helping them build confidence with mark making, pencil control and recognising letters.

Preschool was all focused on maths and number, exploring currency patterns, number recognition and formation of numbers.

What’s happening next month…

Next month, we’ll be diving into an exciting Under the Sea theme! The children will have lots of opportunities toexplore sea creatures through sensory play, small world activities and imaginative storytelling. We’ll be getting creative with a variety of ocean-themed crafts, making colourful fish, jellyfish, turtles and other sea animals while developing our fine motor skills. We’ll also be holding boat races, where the children can investigate floating and sinking, make predictions and experiment with different ways to move their boats across the water.

We will also be exploring nature through blackberry painting, using natural resources to create unique artwork and encouraging the children to experiment with different textures and colours. There will also be plenty of seaside-inspired sensory activities, including seashell exploration, sand play, treasure hunts and water trayinvestigations, helping the children build their communication, problem-solving and early mathematical skills through play.

We’ll be ending the month with Party Week, as we celebrate our wonderful preschool children before they head off on their next adventure at school. The week will be filled with fun party games, music and dancing, special treats, and a bouncy castle for everyone to enjoy.

It will be a fantastic way to celebrate all of the children’s achievements, make lasting memories and give our preschoolers a very special send-off!

August’s Preschool focus:

As we prepare to say goodbye to our preschool children as they begin their exciting journey to Reception, we want to take a moment to say just how incredibly proud we are of each and every one of them.

At Three Gables, it has been a privilege to watch the children grow, learn, develop and flourish. They have shown kindness, curiosity, resilience and confidence, and it has been wonderful to be part of such an important stage in their lives.

Throughout this final month, our focus will be on supporting each child’s transition to school in the very best way we can. We will continue to nurture all areas of their development while incorporating their individual interests into our learning experiences, making each day as fun, engaging and memorable as possible.

We are especially looking forward to our party week, where the children can celebrate all they have achieved and enjoy making lasting memories with their friends. They truly deserve to have a wonderful time together.

As they prepare for this exciting next chapter, we will continue to build their independence, support their emotionalregulation, encourage their confidence and ensure they have the very best head start for school.’

Some ideas to do at home:

  • Go on a nature walk – If you’re visiting the beach, collect shells, pebbles or driftwood (where permitted). Ifnot, visit a local pond or park and talk about animals that live in or around water.
  • Treasure hunt – Hide shells, blue objects or toy sea animals around the house or garden for your child tofind.
  • Increase independence surrounding toileting – wiping independently, washing hands thoroughly and dryingthem properly.
  • Turn taking activities – listening to instructions and following rules, such as board games or “Simon Says.”
  • Bath time fun – Add toy sea creatures to bath time and encourage imaginative play, counting andstorytelling.
